Ken Stroud's Story

Planned Giving and Trust Services

“The word of God lives in the young.”
1 John 2:14

When the Planned Giving and Trust Services Representative visited Ken Stroud’s parents during his senior year in high school, he didn’t pay much attention. He closed his door, adjusted his Discman headphones and went back to studying for his physics test.

Six years later, Ken’s parents introduced him to the Planned Giving and Trust Services Representative at a party celebrating his first job as an engineer. “My parents explained that Planned Giving and Trust Services had worked with my grandparents when they established the education trust that helped pay my Adventist college tuition,” explains Ken. “I asked a few questions, and I learned how Planned Giving and Trust Services helped my family take care of all of us, while returning to God all the assets He loaned them in life.”

Ken began to take stock of what his new job would provide him and to consider how those assets could build a future for him and for God’s Kingdom. “It just made sense to call Planned Giving and Trust Services for help,” says Ken. “I don’t have much, but I realized that I have responsibilities — not only to myself and my family, but also to the Lord.”

With help from Planned Giving and Trust Services, Ken now has a Christian will and a retirement savings plan that reflects his faith. “Now, in addition to contributing to my 401 (k) at work, I’m working with Planned Giving and Trust Services to develop additional retirement income and create a legacy for the Lord. I feel good because I’m doing something for myself and something for God.”

Learn while you’re young:
Put your hope in the Lord.”

Lamentations 3:27

Enjoy the moment. As a young adult in the 21st century, your
opportunities are limitless. Unlike many previous generations, your main concern is not getting a job, but choosing the right job — and most starting salaries will put you light years ahead of where your parents were in their 20s and 30s.

And just as the Lord helped you pick your career and successfully complete your studies, He will be your partner in everything you undertake. And as you become progressively more independent, your church can stand beside you — not only in matters of faith, but also in matters of finance.

That’s where Planned Giving and Trust Services comes in. A unique mission of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church, Planned Giving and Trust Services can help you answer some difficult questions: How can you include the Lord’s work in your weekly budget in the early stages of your career? How can you pay your student loans and start a savings plan? What should you do to protect yourself in case of disability?

You’ve always depended on the Lord for guidance. Now Planned Giving and Trust Services can help you make faith part of your financial independence. To find out more, call Planned Giving and Trust Services today.

Responsibilities for the Here and Now
— and the Hereafter

“The Lord would have His followers dispense their means while they can do it themselves,” counseled Ellen White, nearly 150 years ago. In the matter of wills, she said, it is our responsibility to exercise our intellect and “secure to the Lord His own.”

So began the Seventh-day Adventist tradition of redistributing resources through wills, trusts, annuities and other special gifts that benefit individuals, families and God’s work. A highly professional service at every level of the church, Planned Giving and Trust Services expresses this tradition through sound administrative and investment policies, accountability and high ethical standards. All personnel must be certified and complete annual continuing education requirements. Planned Giving and Trust Services organizations are audited regularly and meet rigorous accreditation and fiduciary
standards.

Designed to meet changing needs throughout the life cycle, Planned Giving and Trust Services not only provides useful financial, estate and gifts planning information, but also discusses how to arrange care for children or elderly parents and name individuals to make decisions for them if they are unable to do so. By placing these services in the context of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs — and making them available to all, regardless of income — Planned Giving and Trust Services provides a unique opportunity for our church family to achieve their personal, financial and spiritual
objectives.
